Scales read best in cool metallics rather than flat colour, which is why this collection is built around Diamond FX's 30g Metallic Green and Metallic Blue cakes and Cameleon's Metallic 32g Purple Heart and Victorious Blue, blended wet on the sponge rather than dry for a proper shimmer. The Colourblock 30g Siren by Brierly does the blending for you in one cake if you are short on time between faces.

Layering the shine

Once the base is down, Festival Chunky Glitter Gel in Holographic Silver, White or Teal goes over the cheekbones for individual scale highlights rather than an all over glitter wash. The D07 Mermaid Scales and D03 Siren Scales stencils give a repeatable pattern along the jaw, and the NH3 Swimming Mermaid Crown stencil turns the same colours into a forehead design instead. TAG's Pearl Blue 32g cake sits between the greens and blues if a face needs a softer transition colour.
