About Special FX Kits
Which SFX kit suits a beginner?
If this is your first go at special effects, the Heart Face Art Special FX Collection gives you a range of techniques to experiment with at a sensible price. It is shop own brand, so it also earns double Paint Points. Start with one simple wound, learn how the products behave on skin, then build up from there.
What do professionals and students need?
For production work or study, the Mehron Special FX All-Pro SFX Make up Kit carries more depth and colour range. If scars are your focus, the Grimas Make Up | Scar Wax Basic Set is a handy starting point. Students can also browse kits for SFX students for packs chosen with training in mind.
What should you add to a kit?
A kit covers the base, but most looks need extras. Add fake blood for fresh and aged wounds, and a bruise palette to age the skin around them. Order early before Halloween, because popular kits are the first thing painters reach for in October. Keep a few sponges, a spatula and some makeup remover handy too, so you can practise, clean up and try again without stress.
