Mehron Professional Make Up

Mehron has been making professional makeup in New York since 1927, when Mehron Melik began supplying Broadway. Nearly a century later it is still the brand Australian SFX artists, drama teachers and film students name first, and it is the backbone of our special FX makeup range.

The SFX workhorses

• Liquid latex in 30ml, 133ml and 270ml, white and light flesh. This is the base of torn skin, peeling burns and aged texture.
• Rigid collodion, the scar making solution that contracts the skin into a real indented scar instead of a painted line.
• Modelling putty and wax in 15g and 38g, plus SynWax 42g and Extra Flesh, for building noses, wounds and broken bone.
• Spirit gum with remover, for prosthetics, beards and anything that has to survive a performance.
• Stage blood, squirt blood and coagulated blood gel, in bright arterial and darker set versions.
• 3D Burn Gel and Tooth FX in black, white, gold, nicotine and blood red, for the details that sell a character up close.

Palettes, foundations and powders

The Bruise and Tattoo Covering palette wheels are the fastest route to believable bruising and to covering real tattoos for a shoot. Creamblend sticks give opaque cream colour in a twist up form, and the All Pro and Mini Pro cream foundation kits are what drama departments buy. The metallic pigment powders in silver, copper, rose gold and lavender go over a mixing liquid for a true metal finish, and Colourset Powder locks the whole face down.

Working safely with Mehron

Barrier Spray is worth adding to any Mehron order: it prepares skin before heavy cream makeup and sets the finished face afterwards. Mehron states that its products are not tested on animals, and marks individual products with its own vegan symbol where that applies, so check the product page rather than assuming it covers the whole range.
