Grimas Make-up Australia

Grimas is a Dutch make-up house founded in 1981 and still developed and manufactured at its own factory in Heemstede, the Netherlands. It has spent forty years supplying theatre, film and television as well as face painters, schools and hobbyists, and it publishes a full ingredient listing for every product and every colour it makes. What we stock from Grimas

Our Grimas range is built around the two things Australian artists ask for most: a palette that covers a whole character in one box, and a stick that lays down a base in seconds.

• Crème Make-up Pure palettes — twelve 2.5ml pans of oil and wax based crème make-up. Grimas describes Crème Make-up Pure as a base make-up that can be applied either covering or transparent. Palette B mixes character colours with skin tones for skulls, bruising, ageing and creature work. Palette V is skin tones only, for matching, correcting and blending wound edges into real skin.
• Covercream Pure sticks — 16ml twist-up sticks in White, Black, Deep Red, Dark Blue and Dark Grey. Grimas lists Covercream Pure as vegan, made from plant-based oils and waxes, and suitable as a base or as light camouflage.
• Covercream Bright sticks — the same stick format with a pearl shimmer through it, in Envy Green and Aqua Splash, for scales, frost and anything that needs to catch the light.

Crème palette or Covercream stick?

Choose a palette when you need several colours and control: blending, shading, detail work, or a face that changes across a show. Choose a stick when you need one colour fast and opaque: a white skull base, a black socket, a green witch, a red devil. Most kits end up with both, because the stick blocks in the shape and the palette makes it look real.

Grimas for Halloween and SFX

Crème make-up is oil based, so it stays workable on the skin much longer than water make-up. That is exactly what you want for bruising, wounds, ageing and stippled texture, where the effect is built in layers rather than painted in one pass. Set it with a translucent powder and it will hold for a full night.
