Mont Marte Brushes & Accessories
Mont Marte is an Australian art materials brand, run from Brisbane by the Kent family and trading here since 2003. Face painters use Mont Marte for the same reason illustrators do: consistent brush shapes at a price that lets you own the whole set rather than one precious brush you are frightened to use.
Choosing a shape
-
Round brushes from No.4 to No.24 are the general purpose shape. A round with a good point handles line work, teardrops and petals, and the larger sizes fill an area quickly.
-
Flat brushes in No.5, 7, 8 and 10 are for loading split cakes and one stroke work, where the whole edge of the brush lays several colours at once.
-
Filberts in No.8 and No.10 have a rounded edge, which is what you want for soft petals and feathers with no hard corners.
-
Round liners in No.2 and No.4 hold a long reservoir of thinned paint, so a whisker or a swirl comes out in one continuous stroke.
-
Detailers in No.1, 2 and 3 handle the tiny work: eyelashes, dots, teeth and lettering.
-
The No.7 fan brush is for texture, stippling and scattering glitter.
Looking after them
Face paint is hard on brushes, because they are loaded wet and often left standing. The Mont Marte brush washer, with its twin compartment design, lets you park a brush upright in water instead of resting it on the bristles, and the brush wallet protects points in a kit bag. Both pay for themselves in brushes you do not have to replace.
