Face Painting Sponges
Sponge shape decides what a stroke looks like more than most painters expect: a Half Moon sponge, sold by TAG Body Art and Heart Face Art, gives one straight edge and one curved edge for a quick two-tone blend, while a Petal sponge from the same two brands is smaller and rounded for dabbing colour into a tight space like a cheek or nose.
Matching sponge to job
- Mini Finger Dauber Sponge, single or the 12 pack, for small dabbed accents such as freckles or blush
- Smoothie Blender Dauber Sponge, in Mini or Regular, for softening the join between two colours
- Make Up Triangle Sponge and Make Up Diamond Sponge for foundation-style base colour over a larger area
- Heart Face Art's own stipple sponge, built for SFX work, gives a mottled, textured finish rather than a flat one
TAG's Half Moon Sponge is also sold as a case of 100, worth knowing about if you are painting a school fete rather than one face. Give sponges a proper wash using the cleaning products stocked here rather than a bar of hand soap, since sponge foam holds paint differently to bristle.
